Calling all FOGS Volunteers - Council celebrates National Volunteers Week

Greater Taree City Council will join thousands of organisations around the nation to mark the 25th anniversary of National Volunteer Week in Australia (12 – 18 May).   This year’s campaign theme “Celebrate the Power of Volunteering” is all about appreciating and understanding the work of volunteers here in the Manning Valley and across the nation.

Council, along with many other local organisations, relies on the support of volunteers to ensure certain services are available to the community. Council itself has hundreds of volunteers registered, who provide a range of services to the community, including the maintenance of Council’s parks and gardens, to fundraising for community facilities like the Manning Regional Art Gallery.

“National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to dedicate and honour our volunteers here at Council,” said Greater Taree City Mayor Paul Hogan.  “It is also a time to honour other volunteers within the Manning Valley who selflessly give up their time to provide essential services to the community.”

Brett Williamson, the CEO of the national peak body Volunteering Australia, commended the event to recognise the work of volunteers: “With six million volunteers nationally, we are thrilled to acknowledge their hard work and dedication, through educating the community about the role volunteers play in society and change the way they are perceived. They truly are to the benefit of every organisation.”

To recognise the important contribution volunteers make to the community, Council will host a barbecue lunch in Harry Bennett Park in Taree (on River Street near the Martin Bridge), on Friday, 16 May at 11:30am. Anyone who is involved in volunteering is welcome to come along.

Attendees are requested to RSVP by 13 May for catering purposes to gtaree@gtcc.nsw.gov.au or by calling the Customer Service Centre on 6592 5399.
